Artistic Investment Casting in Seville: From Education to Craftsmanship
As part of the programme in Seville, delegates will begin their visit at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Seville, where students are trained in the full intricacy of artistic investment casting.
In this unique academic setting, the lost wax process is not approached as an industrial technique, but as a creative and expressive medium, where metallurgy and art converge. Students are guided through every stage of the process—from wax modelling and ceramic shell building to metal casting and finishing—developing not only technical competence, but also a deep understanding of form, texture, and artistic intention.
This environment offers delegates a rare opportunity to observe how investment casting is taught as an art form, rooted in centuries-old traditions yet continuously evolving through contemporary artistic practice. It highlights the importance of craftsmanship, sensitivity to materials, and the human element that lies at the heart of the process.
Following this introduction, the visit will continue to Fundición Marcelo, an artisanal foundry where these same principles are applied in a professional context. Here, delegates will see how artistic concepts are translated into finished works through the mastery of the casting process, reinforcing the close relationship between education, artistic creation and technical execution.
Together, these visits provide a distinctive perspective on investment casting—one that goes beyond its industrial applications and reconnects with its origins as a discipline of artistic expression, where each piece is unique and each stage of the process reflects the skill and vision of its creator.
